    historic atmosphere
    maintenance issues

The location is rich in character, set within a

historic former monastery that showcases beautiful architecture. My room was quite spacious, and I appreciated the unique integration of modern amenities. However, the maintenance was lacking in some areas. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with friendly staff and a serene atmosphere.

Solo traveler looking for a cozy retreat

The staff was very nice and helpful at all times they offered me drinks at the bar while I was waiting to check in. The bar and their garden were amazing places to sit and rest.

It wasn’t cheap but still acceptable.

    historic atmosphere
    great breakfast
    ventilation issues
    non-functioning amenities
    slippery shower

The unique feel of staying in an old monastery adds a special charm to the experience. The chapel where breakfast is served creates a memorable atmosphere. I really enjoyed the spacious room with character, featuring comfy bedding. The view from my attic room overlooking the church tower was stunning, especially at dawn. However, there were some hiccups. The air conditioning didn’t function properly, which made it uncomfortable during the warm evenings. The bathroom also lacked proper ventilation, and I found the shower floor a bit slippery, needing extra caution. I appreciated how the staff was willing to help, especially in finding alternative accommodations when my initial room had no hot water. The breakfast offered was varied and exceeded my expectations. the experience definitely ranks high on my list of hotel highlights. Still, the inconsistency in the amenities held the stay back from perfection.

Just an appropriate option for a weekend pause in Ghent with best value for money ratio. The bathroom was lovely and the bath was really big. Check if you’re okay with a bit of street noise.

    fantastic breakfast
    friendly staff
    quiet atmosphere
    late night noise

I had a great time with my friends during our stay. The breakfast options were fantastic, and the quiet atmosphere made for a relaxing experience. We visited the nearby historic sites, which were super easy to get to. The staff were friendly and made our stay enjoyable!

My friend did encounter a frustrating experience with noise late into the night from a wedding reception, which affected their sleep.

    historic chapel
    spacious rooms
    rich breakfast
    bar service

The hotel features a stunning chapel, adding a unique historic element to the stay. Rooms are spacious, offering comfortable amenities. Tea and coffee supplies for a convenient experience. The breakfast variety is rich, providing a delightful way to start the day.

Be prepared for an abundance of stairs, which can be challenging for some travelers. On the dining front, the breakfast doesn't quite match its price tag. at €17.50 per person, replenishment issues might leave you wanting. The bar service lacks efficiency and could benefit from more attentive staffing, especially during peak hours.

Staying at Monasterium Poortackere was a delightful experience. The unique historic atmosphere truly transported me, and the breakfast in the former chapel was unforgettable. While the wooden floors allowed some noise, the charm of the old monastery outweighed any disturbances.
